It doesn’t take much to completely change your life. Lift a heavy object awkwardly and strain your back muscles; play sports a little too aggressively and sprain a ligament; fall while biking and break a bone. Even after an injury heals, pain can continue to hamper your lifestyle, but physical therapy can change all of that.
Since 1992, physical therapy services at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital have been provided through an arrangement with Ohio University Therapy Associates (OUTA), a provider of therapy services in the southeastern Ohio area since 1984.
The major goals of physical therapy are to relieve pain, promote healing, improve and restore function, and prevent disabilities. The physical therapy staff at O'Bleness can evaluate and treat patients of all ages who have a variety of conditions.
Some patients are treated for musculoskeletal conditions such as injuries to the lower back while others may require physical therapy to increase their strength and endurance after a heart attack. The physical therapy staff can also provide neuromuscular physical therapy services such as stroke rehabilitation, gait training, muscle re-education, nerve pathway retraining and therapy to promote normal development in developmentally delayed and severely handicapped children. Special attention is given to wound care. Treatments may include irrigation, removing dead tissue and special bandaging, all of which can help prevent infection and enhance healing.
The O’Bleness staff members develop specific treatment plans in conjunction with their patients’ goals and educate patients about managing their condition at home. Family members are included so they can understand the condition and provide encouragement and support.
O'Bleness' Rehabilitation Center for physical and speech therapy is located on the first floor of the Castrop Center in the O'Bleness Medical Park.
