Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a technology for imaging that utilizes sound waves instead of radiation. For the past 25 years, this safe and effective imaging technology has provided a valuable tool for diagnosing a variety of diseases and conditions. Ultrasound provides parents with images of their unborn child. Physicians use ultrasound imaging in evaluating almost all parts of the body including the neck, chest, abdomen and extremities. Ultrasound produces images of internal body parts in motion such as the heart and blood moving through blood vessels.

O’Bleness Memorial Hospital’s ultrasound system was the first of its kind in Ohio. This system produces clear, high-resolution images of organs that were previously inaccessible such as organs deep in the abdomen. Data can be stored for review at a later date.

The system is also used to augment mammograms. With the detail available using this technology, radiologists are able to differentiate solid masses from cystic lesions and determine if a mass is likely benign or possibly malignant and in need of biopsy.

O’Bleness’ ultrasound imaging equipment is operated by ultrasonography technologists who have received specialized training and are registered by the American Registry of Medical Sonographers. The images are evaluated by radiologists with Radiology Associates of Athens. Ultrasound procedures are available to patients with a physician order in the hospital’s Radiology Department.

Our Floor Map will show you where O’Bleness’ Radiology Department is located.
