Weatherby's is located just inside the Visitor Entrance at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital. Volunteer Avanelle Conrath and other hospital volunteers staff Weatherby's weekdays, some evenings and most weekends. Visitors to our gift shop will find a varied assortment of gifts, magazines, cards, balloons, stamps, fresh and artificial flower arrangements, personal care items and snacks. Our shop also features Fenton Art Glass.
Hospital volunteers deliver telephone orders to our patients on the day the orders are received. To place a telephone order for fresh flower arrangements or other items using your MasterCard, Visa or debit card, call (740) 592-9436 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Please have your credit card information ready when you call.
Weatherby's is named in honor of the late Glenna B. Weatherby, a longtime Athens resident who volunteered in the gift shop from 1973 to 1986. Mrs. Weatherby staffed the gift shop four days a week for most of those years, serving more than 20,000 volunteer hours. She was the first recipient of the O'Bleness Memorial Hospital Volunteer of the Year award. A portrait of Mrs. Weatherby, created by local artist and former O'Bleness employee Lisa Wilson, is displayed in the hallway outside the shop.
Mrs. Weatherby was born in Lodi Township on Dec. 2, 1898. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Captolia McAfee Goldsberry. A graduate of Shade High School and Ohio University, she taught elementary school at Jacksonville, Albany, Shade and Morrison schools.
